Verdun has become one of the places to be when it comes to eating.  The stretch in question is Wellington and there are restaurants there up the wazoo.  If you want to make an impact and get noticed in this city, you go to where the action is.  For this still young pub known as Balconville, Verdun is the place to be.

Boulevard Saint-Laurent is probably one of the most iconic streets on the island of Montréal.  While there is a lot going on, there are some stretches of The Main that has very little when it comes to eating.  In the last little while, you have a place that is starting to change that assumption and it’s called Pub Sir Joseph.

Despite what people may want to tell you, we’re all blessed to live in or near such a great city like Montréal.  With that being said, why is the culture of this city so intertwined with drinking?  I might not be the best person to answer that, mostly because I don’t drink and I don’t plan on it.  I think I got a chance to get a glimpse of that scene when I got my latest burger at Pub Quartier Latin.

When it comes to the most unique part of the island of Montréal, one could only go as far as the Old Port.  There, you have some of the most interesting architectural buildings the city has to offer.  They’ve been around for ages and it is interesting to see what occupies those places in 2013.  This is where Pub St. Paul comes in.

When you think of a pub, there’s always that one synonymous item you get when you go there, a burger.  In Montreal, you’ll find that there are many pubs that you’ll have to sift through before settling on just one.  But, when you hear buzz about a burger, it makes things so much easier.  On this occasion, Fiddler’s Green Irish Pub was the location for yet another burger.

Ask anyone who has been around for a long time, it’s not easy.  To gain any kind of longevity, you have to be doing something right.  In Montreal, there are those iconic places that you can easily rattle off the top of your head.  For the last 20 years, one of those places was McLean’s Pub.

Downtown Montreal has a lot to choose from.  If you’re anything like me, the sheer amount of choices will leave you for a tizzy.  Despite that, for no matter what you’re craving, there’s something for you.  One of the central parts of the downtown core is Peel, a street that can probably lay claim to the busiest pedestrian intersections in the entire city of Montreal.  Just as busy as it can be walking-wise, you’ll find an also crowded restaurant scene.

This is a dimly-lit hang-out situated in the midst of the area served by the Universite de Montreal. My suggestion is that you need to get there early if you’re going to get a seat. The closer you get to noon, the less space there is. The service was fine, though I felt that one server for an entire floor was lacking.

Ballymore Burger

This burger contains onions, lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms, Swiss cheese, and bacon.

Upon first glance, the burger looks fine. The combination of ingredients is hopeful, but they soon get lost in the shuffle. I had a hard time getting a sense of what I’m eating. None of the strong ingredients stood out. Not the bacon, the Swiss cheese, or the mushrooms. The meat itself was rather large, but unfortunately, it was a little overdone. I’m kinda feeling bad because I was suggested this place and I had high expectations. The burger is fine, but I needed something to stand out. The fries that were included are somewhat spicy and the mayo worked well in combination.

This was a highly recommended location for me to choose. This is the third and newest location for the pub. I know that I constantly hear the ads on the Team 990, so the hype was pushed real hard on me.

The location is dimly lit and quite homey. You get your choice as to where to sit. The big novelty was the menu. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. The menu was printed on newspaper along with facts which make it interesting. Better than that, you get to keep it, which I was more than happy to do.

McKibbin’s 1/2 lb. Burger

The burger contains lettuce, tomatoes, caramelized onions, and pickles. I have to first say that I made an error in my order. I failed to mention that I wanted to make it a deluxe. Deluxe would’ve added cheese, mushrooms, more onions, and obviously bacon. Despite my lack of judgement, I still was happy to see what was presented to me.

The first things I noticed was the overt presence of the patty. It tasted really good. Even without all the deluxeness, the ingredients left still made this a pretty good tasting burger. It was also extremely filling. The fries were also quite good and not a fast food rip-off.

I am definitely planning a future visit to one of the other two locations. I would really like to get my ordering right by trying the deluxe version of this burger. I also am very intrigued by the bison meat option. So that’s in the future.

An NDG favorite, located within walking distance of the Villa-Maria metro station, or if you’re like me, afraid of heights, easily accessible by bus. The pub is nice and quaint with the option of seating yourself. The server was dressed in a kilt-like garb which added to the authenticity.

Mountain Burger

This burger has the distinction of being the first one to include jalapeno peppers. Usually, I try to avoid the spice, but I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea. The heat generated by the peppers was not overwhelming at all. It actually kept the burger warm for the entire meal. Great with taste, its a definite must try.
