Before any one of us can move forward, we always have to give our dues to the past. Without the past, the future doesn’t have a chance. While the Burger Search officially started with an iconic place, the real path began at Frite Alors!

The Pointe-Saint-Charles district of Montreal is becoming an increasingly popular area when it comes to finding places to eat. These neighborhoods are becoming the places to go to when it comes to finding those places. One of the places that’s attracting crowds is a place called Le Diable à Quatre, which touts itself as a modern tavern.

On the second anniversary of Mr. Lew’s Great Burger Search: The Blog, there was only one way to celebrate and that was to eat a burger. Alright, I’ll be honest, for another year, I forgot about it. There’s another thing that I forgot, in a way, that there was a place on Notre-Dame that’s been around for many years, Green Spot.

Montreal AM Radio has had a huge impact on my life. Over the years, I’ve listening to such names as Ted Tevan, Peter Anthony Holder, and Mitch Melnick. One thing that all three of those names have in common is the fact that they’ve all spoke for various restaurants. I haven’t had the chance to visit the places they talked about, but there’s one that I would have never known of if it wasn’t for the hours I spent listening to AM radio. That place is called Lester’s Deli and it was finally time to see what the fuss was all about.

With Montreal’s first ever poutine week now behind us, one has to think that this city is greatly spoiled. Believe me, none of us would have it any other way. During that short period of time at the beginning of February, at least 30 different restaurants put out their version of Quebec’s signature dish. While a lot of those options were tempting, only one particular poutine was worth the trek. The one worthy poutine can be found at Blackstrap BBQ in Verdun.

With the sixth edition of Happening Gourmand now a thing of the past, it’s time to take a look at the fourth and final place on my itinerary for this year. Located right next to the Palais des Congres, Suite 701 has the distinction of being the place I was looking the most forward to. As I think of my other 3 restaurant visits during the event, I could only wonder if Suite 701 would live up.

In July of 2011, this Great Burger Search went through its turning point, one that changed the way this whole enterprise was approached. The restaurant that was part of that slow transformation was Méchant Boeuf. With Happening Gourmand wrapping up, my third visit compelled me to have a much different kind of burger in a restaurant that had a strong first outing.

Happening Gourmand 2013 gives a chance for every Montrealer set foot in restaurants that they would not normally be able to afford. One of the newcomers in this year’s line-up is a place that people are talking about, Bevo Pizza. Their take on Italian cuisine and pizza is surely something that could no longer be ignored.

Looking for places at the last minute is not something that I’m really known for. There are still literally hundreds of possible burgers left on my list and when put in that position of having to choose on the fly, I’m in trouble. This is where Chez Claudette comes in. A small place located just steps away from a metro station was home to a quick decision, one that I may or may no have regretted.
There is one thing that is synonymous with the province of Quebec and that is poutine. Some might even say that it should be Canada’s national dish, but others will fight you to the death on that one. Regardless of petty disagreements, the poutine is something that I can’t get enough of. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, I just have to go with the life-shortening dish with cheese curds and gravy. While some places will never go wrong with the dish, others should seriously rethink theirs. This isn’t about the worst, but the 5 that stood out in 2012.

We all have our own neighbourhood places. Ville Saint-Laurent is a vast territory, but there is one thing that doesn’t quite sit well with a lot of us, the lack of significant places to eat. In this part of town, there are a litany of fast food options and chain restaurants, but none of those are really worth talking about. What is worth talking about is a place that I couldn’t leave 2012 without trying, Décarie Hot Dog.

Have you ever passed some large metropolitan street and stopped to think about the many tiny places that are hidden there? You’d be surprised how many places we overlook because they mesh with their background. There are so many strip malls on the island of Montreal that contain places that go unknown because we just zoom past them. One of those such places is called Crazy Falafel, located on a busy street known as Cote-Vertu.

Pine Avenue is one of those streets on the island of Montreal that isn’t that long, but still lives long in the hearts of the citizens of this island. The street is home to many hospitals, school, and iconic businesses. One of those businesses is a pizza place affectionately known as Mamma’s.

Whenever you think about the question of who has the best burger in the city of Montreal, one name always comes to mind. Regardless of any type of cuisine you like or follow, you cannot ignore what this particular place has done for the Montreal landscape. That place is affectionately known as La Paryse.

The search for great burgers once again takes us to a rich area where food can be found even if you’re not looking. Boulevard Saint-Laurent or The Main is one has one of the heaviest concentration of food on the entire island of Montreal. Not only that, you can find nearly all types of cuisine on this street. While today’s focus was not on the international fare that can be found, but on the burgers that come from Pitarifique.
