Sainte-Catherine street is probably one of the busiest pedestrian avenues in the entire city. On any given day, you’ll find thousands of people making their way to one place or another. It’s the kind of street where things happen at all times of the day. That’s the case in the middle of the afternoon at Guido and Angelina.

Growing up, we all had those grandparents who cooked for us and had their secret recipes. To this day, my own grandparents still cook weekly and gather their family around the dinner table. There are some places that turn that family tradition into a advertising concept. One of those places is Enoteca Mozza in Laval.

October is National Pizza Month and there’s only one way to celebrate such an occasion. Pizza is probably one of the items that can give the almighty burger a run for its money and I happen to love eating it just as much. So, in the ever-loving quest to find good pizza on this island, a trip to À la Vieille Cheminée was in order.

Finding food on the island of Laval is not an easy thing if you’re being particular. The overabundance of chain restaurants is something that seems to be the key identity of Laval. Some of those chains are good, while with others, they need not be mentioned. One has to wonder how Portovino stacks up when it comes to scrutiny.

You know what they say about the best laid plans, they often go astray. No matter how much you’re sure about where you’re going or what’s going to happen, there are curves in the road of life. One of the curves led me recently to setting foot in Vinnie Gambinis in the east end of Montreal.

It’s been a while since I’ve been in a non-burger restaurant. So, I decided that this opportunity would be as good as any to try something that I’ve been waiting nearly 15 years to try, a calzone.
