Now that I’m coming to the end of this third year of the GBS, I thought it would be a great time to put together another Burger Night.  For that purpose, I needed a place that would offer enough variety to accommodate a larger group of people.  A few months back, a heard of a place that would be opening up in Laval’s Centropolis.  One look at the menu just called out for a group of burger lovers.

Colleague outings aren’t things that I’m too interested in.  It seems to me that they revolve around things that I’m not too fond of.  It takes a lot of unique factors to make me want to come.  This was the second outing that didn’t quite interest me at first.  Mind you, I’m getting pretty fond of having Greek food, but on this particular Friday evening, it wasn’t quite enough to draw me in.  If you’re wondering why I came out, let me set the scene for you.

Wait!  I know what you’re probably thinking, Mr. Lew changed the whole purpose of his blog and is now searching for something a whole lot less PG.  Well, have no fear, this isn’t what you want to think it is.  Lately, I’ve been so wrapped up in other eating endeavors that I somehow only had tried 2 different burgers in 2012 up to this point.  So, this week, I made it my mission to remedy that situation.  I also asked the people who follow what they preferred to see next.  The overwhelming response is what you’re seeing right now and what you’ll see for the next burger, something out of the blue.  For this one, I wasn’t about to choose something along the lines of same-old, same-old.

Over the last year, I’ve been doing my best to expand my net as far as different types of cuisine are concerned.  I’ve enjoyed all of my recent Greek restaurant visits and look forward to more in the future.  Last September, I was attending a retirement party at Restaurant Ellada.  On that night, I was introduced to a dessert known as loukoumades.  It was around that same exact time where I heard the name Mr. Puffs for the first time.

My burger adventure at Jack Astor’s needed to be capped off with something good.  Whenever I’m accompanied by my trusted colleague, I leave it up to him to throw down the dessert gauntlet.  At first, we were going to go to somewhere I’ve been before, but I pushed for somewhere new.  As a blogger who goes to restaurants, you can understand why I would want to go somewhere else.

This year has been a good year to try different types of ice cream or gelato. I’m grateful to the colleagues who have given me the chance to branch out my culinary experiences.

Chocolate and Nuts Gelato

Tried: June 30, 2011

This tasted fine with your normal chocolate taste. My one complaint is that I counted the number of nuts in the whole serving. After the exhausting process of counting, I came up with two in all. So, I’m thinking about having this renamed to “Chocolate and Maybe Nuts Gelato.” It’s not that I didn’t enjoy this, but I was kinda let down by false advertising.

This was a previous burger search location. As a matter of fact, this was the 20th burger in the first season of the GBS. This time, since I’m on a burger hiatus, I was eager to try something else. Once again, this was a colleague’s suggestion. So, in all, we were 7 to venture out to Laval to get fatter. I was pleased when 2 of the 7 ordered a burger and enjoyed it. The service was very slow at first, but rapidly improved with the personality of the server who was assigned to us. Even a billing issue was handled with grace and real politeness.

10 Ounce Ribs

Tried: June 16, 2011

My experience with ribs are limited to Boston Pizza and the Bar B Barn. So, it is reasonable to say that I needed to branch out. From the first bite, I was sold. The meat just comes off the bone. The taste just melts in your mouth. Usually, I’m one of the last people to finish, but this time, I just put it all down. It’s a messy affair, but it’s worth each and every bite. The mashed potatoes were fine, though a little lumpy. I liked the fact that they were not garlic potatoes. The coleslaw was nothing to write home about.
