Eat me. There are those foods that just shout out those two iconic words when you see them. In Montreal, there are a whole bunch of dishes that just scream the two magical words. A few months back, a hamburger and poutine bar opened up on Mont-Royal, just wanting everyone to Mange-Moi.

October is National Pizza Month and there’s only one way to celebrate such an occasion. Pizza is probably one of the items that can give the almighty burger a run for its money and I happen to love eating it just as much. So, in the ever-loving quest to find good pizza on this island, a trip to À la Vieille Cheminée was in order.

Finding food on the island of Laval is not an easy thing if you’re being particular. The overabundance of chain restaurants is something that seems to be the key identity of Laval. Some of those chains are good, while with others, they need not be mentioned. One has to wonder how Portovino stacks up when it comes to scrutiny.

Montreal has thousands of restaurants that belong in many different categories. While a large quantity of them find themselves in select areas of the island, there are other possible gems that can be found outside that concentration of well-known restaurants. It was really great to hear about a place that was close by where I worked and in an area where you wouldn’t necessarily think of decent places to eat. The place in question is called Sapori di Napoli.

For the second burger in a row, I find myself in the South Shore of Montreal. Like many of the places I’ve been doing on my native shore, they all hold some semblance of nostalgia for me. This particular stretch of Victoria, in the downtown core of St-Lambert, is where all the town’s activity takes place. For me, it’s a street that’s been part of my morning commute during my 2 years in cegep. Over that time, little did I know that there was a restaurant, one called Kapetan.

One of the most important things for me in this Burger Search is trying to find places close to home. The South Shore of Montreal doesn’t quite have the quality, signature places that the island does. It might be the case when it comes to restaurants, but when it comes to shopping, that’s a whole other story. Quartier Dix30 opened back in 2006. Since then, it has grown exponentially and has become the face of Brossard. What’s the most important commercial sector of Brossard without the possibility of a burger? That’s what I wanted to find out.

2011 has been quite the year for eating here in Montreal. In this stand-out year for myself, I’ve been to quite a list of places and done quite a bunch of things that I never thought I’d do. Out of all the things or places in Montreal, there is one thing that I never thought I’d ever be any part of, Moishes. This place is a Montreal institution, much like the famed Schwartz’s just a few steps away. If you want to be seen, this is one of the very few select places you come to, no matter which day of the week. So, I was very intrigued when my favorite food eating colleague threw this out as a suggestion for an outing.
