One of the biggest issues that I always mention in doing this search on the island of Montreal is the fact that it’s not very easy to find burgers in the east end.  At this point, the furthest east I’ve been has been near Les Galeries d’Anjou and I just know that there are places further east.  So, for this visit, I ended up at Coronel on Notre Dame East.

On the second anniversary of Mr. Lew’s Great Burger Search:  The Blog, there was only one way to celebrate and that was to eat a burger.  Alright, I’ll be honest, for another year, I forgot about it.  There’s another thing that I forgot, in a way, that there was a place on Notre-Dame that’s been around for many years, Green Spot.

Now that the new car smell of 2013 is long behind us, we’re getting down to the nitty gritty.  A lot of us are working to make 2013 a year to remember.  February was a very busy month and I wanted to make sure that I took every opportunity to make the most of it.  With that being said, there’s no other direction other than up for me.

Montreal AM Radio has had a huge impact on my life.  Over the years, I’ve listening to such names as Ted Tevan, Peter Anthony Holder, and Mitch Melnick.  One thing that all three of those names have in common is the fact that they’ve all spoke for various restaurants.  I haven’t had the chance to visit the places they talked about, but there’s one that I would have never known of if it wasn’t for the hours I spent listening to AM radio.  That place is called Lester’s Deli and it was finally time to see what the fuss was all about.

In Montreal, there is a list of the essential go-to spots that you have to check off of your list to officially call yourself a resident of this city.  They vary from different kinds of cuisine, budget criteria, and just sheer levels of awesomeness.  One of the places that I’ve been itching to go to in the last few years is called Kazu.  You can ask just about anyone in Montreal and they’ll tell you that this is the place to go.

Sometimes, when you walk around and see places from the outside, you don’t quite know what’s going on inside.  You wouldn’t know it from looking in from the outside, but there’s a place called Voro that has a few good tricks up their sleeves, most involving bacon.

With the sixth edition of Happening Gourmand now a thing of the past, it’s time to take a look at the fourth and final place on my itinerary for this year.  Located right next to the Palais des Congres, Suite 701 has the distinction of being the place I was looking the most forward to.  As I think of my other 3 restaurant visits during the event, I could only wonder if Suite 701 would live up.

The first month of a brand new year is already behind us.  A new year is a time to reset our ideals and standards.  For the Great Burger Search, it’s time to make sure that more burgers are conquered and more experiences are etched in stone.  The plans for 2013 are lofty, but with time, I’m sure we’re all going to have a huge 2013.

In July of 2011, this Great Burger Search went through its turning point, one that changed the way this whole enterprise was approached.  The restaurant that was part of that slow transformation was Méchant Boeuf.  With Happening Gourmand wrapping up, my third visit compelled me to have a much different kind of burger in a restaurant that had a strong first outing.

Looking for places at the last minute is not something that I’m really known for.  There are still literally hundreds of possible burgers left on my list and when put in that position of having to choose on the fly, I’m in trouble.  This is where Chez Claudette comes in.  A small place located just steps away from a metro station was home to a quick decision, one that I may or may no have regretted.

Sometimes, when you least expect it, you’ll find something that you’re looking for without even realizing it.  In life, that’s sometimes the best way to run into something worthwhile.  Just under a year ago, I was introduced to the Vieux-Port Steakhouse.  As promised in the post from last year, I did indeed make a return visit.  However, best laid plans were completely blown to bits when a random menu discovery was made.

In 1942, just over 70 years ago, the world was still deeply involved in the second World War.  It was that year where a newlywed couple would purchase a snack bar and turn it into what is known as Beauty’s Luncheonette.  Home to an extremely well known Beautys Special, it’s no wonder that this iconic Montreal establishment is still going strong in 2013.

2013 is already upon us and we’re all probably ready to really get this year going.  This is also the case when it comes to burgers.  There’s not going to be any more time wasted as I’m looking forward to seeing what the new year has in store when it comes to having burgers.  To begin the year, I look to a very crowded burger street in Avenue Mont-Royal and relative newcomer, Cornichon.

With 2012 now behind us, I want to have one last look at the past before we forge ahead and break new ground in 2013.  My main purpose in pursuing this blog is to seek out new burgers and to boldly go where I haven’t been to before.  Searching Montreal and its surrounding areas for great burgers isn’t just about the actual product, it’s about the journey itself.  Without that journey, there would be no point in doing this.  So, by going through the various desserts, poutines, dishes, pictures, and moments, there is only one last thing to reflect on, the 5 most memorable burgers of 2012.
