Our whirlwind trip through Boston was winding down and we were making our way home.  A lot of our students had to be home for Easter dinner and our options were limited.  So, a stop in West Lebanon yielded a lot of fast food options, or so one would think.  With a timer on this visit, this gave me the opportunity to visit Denny’s.

The second day of our Boston trip was nearing its end and we were headed to the heart of the city.  A year ago, Boston suffered a tragic blow.  The Boston Marathon was overshadowed by the most unfortunate of events.  A year later, the people of Boston are strong and they are moving past the tragedies.  One of the restaurants that joined that effort is Five Napkin Burger at the Prudential Center.

The month of May is important for just about anyone.  Most schools are winding down their academic years and that causes a lot of us, including myself, to be really busy.  In the realm of this search, there were a few loose ends to tie up.  I actually had a personal situation which could have caused a lengthy interruption to my normal routine.  Luckily, that was sorted out rather quickly, thanks to some pure, dumb luck.

On this day, 5 years ago, there was a little restaurant on Ontario, just north of De Maisonneuve, and it had a lot of high praise.  The praise was all because of a burger.  At the time, I didn’t get it.  Even after having that first burger, I still didn’t get it.  Well, that place was known as La Paryse and it was the first of 249 burgers that have been consumed over the last 5 years.

This year, I’ve had the chance to tackle my half completed burger bucket list in Philadelphia.  When I think back to my first trip to the Boston area in 2013, there was one place that I was so close to trying, but it just wasn’t to be.  This time around, I was more than thrilled to get the chance to sit down at Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage in Cambridge.

In May of 2013, I had the chance to travel to Boston for the very first time in my life.  Fast forward to April of 2014, I was given the opportunity to make that voyage once again.  Along the way, we got to make a stop at the Merrimack Premium Outlets in New Hampshire.  While it might not be the most legitimate places, the fast food court includes a place called Buckhead Grill.

The month of April saw two big things in the realm of the Great Burger Search.  For one, the results from Philadelphia saw the light of day.  As that was going on, I had the chance to make a return to Boston for another slew of burgers and a second chance at a place that was closed the first time around.

A couple of months ago, I made my way to Westmount to check out one of the oldest restaurants in the city.  Along the way, I was scoping out Greene to seek out new places for my list.  Well, there was another place that wasn’t that far away.  That place was Bistro on the Avenue.

For the final burger of this trip to Philadelphia, it was finally time for the first one chosen during the planning phase.  Located on one of the most unique streets in the entire city, this place was part of the top 50 restaurants in Philadelphia.  After bouncing back and forth through the city, it was finally time to make my way to Supper.

The second day of our trip to Philadelphia took us to some of the most historical sites.  When you walk further south, you find yourself in the district known as the Italian Market.  While that might sound like a haven of pizza and pasta, it’s the home to staples such as the Philly cheesesteak.  While I would have loved to share that, there was one place that made sure I continued my burger search, which was Royal Tavern.

In life, there are two words that we all have heard of that ruminate in the back of one’s mind and that’s the ‘bucket list.’  Over the course of the last 9 months, in planning my incursion into Philadelphia, there was one place that couldn’t be avoided because it was becoming one of the hottest places in the entire United States.  Well, I can officially cross a place off of my burger bucket list and it’s simply known as PYT.

2013 was a breakthrough year for Mr. Lew’s Great Burger Search.  During that calendar year, I had the chance to go to our neighbors to the south to eat more burgers than ever before.  I wasn’t about to let 2014 go without more opportunities of that variety.  For the first time since last May, this search finds itself across the border in the capital of New York state at The Standard.

The month of March is usually a very significant month for me.  Each year, I make some of my best visits.  This year, there’s no exception.  For the first time ever, I got the chance to visit the city of Philadelphia, thus getting 3 of their top burgers done.  In the weeks that will come, I hope to share with you the fruits of that labor, alongside the highlights of a trip that I won’t soon forget.
