As some of you know, ice cream has become a recent fixture in my excursions. I have been quite lucky to have been surrounded by a few ice cream experts in recent months. Those individuals have paved the way for dessert goodness.
On the heels of Burger 110, our group needed something to put a positive spin on the night. Even though I did some research of the Saint-Denis ice cream options, I believed this was little too far for a night stroll. So, I picked another closer location to try. Now, I am a very accommodating person when it comes to changing things up for the better. One of the guest burger reviews suggested this location. They swore by this place. That’s enough to peak my interest. So, having that stunning testimonial, we headed down Saint-Denis towards the ice cream haven known as Les Givrés.
I spent the walk listening to the tales of what this place was all about. I heard how they make every item on their own. The list of things to try was quite long. I really had a hard time trying to figure out what I was going to get.
Upon entering the place, it was a little empty, but I think it was mainly due to the time of night. There are plenty of tables around for anyone to enjoy their ice cream treat without bother. The counter attendant was very cordial, did their job well, and was patient as questions were asked. You can’t ask for more than that from a service employee.
When I stood in front of the counter and looked at the multitudes of flavours, I actually managed to pick something rather quickly. I was going with a safe, tried and true choice that would never disappoint me. I was ready to take a two scoop medium cup when I was informed that two different flavours were indeed possible. I quickly made the choice and was ready to see if I made out alright.

Before I get to the ice cream, I have to note the ice cream cone making machine. Even at that hour of the night, they were in the process of making ice cream. Just looking at this machine is absolutely incredible. Then, seeing the tube of ice cream cones towards the ceiling just boggles the mind, in a good way. Though, when having a conversation, it is best to wait for the machine to quiet down. It was quite a show as other customers took time to watch the master working his machine.
No, this is not a typo, the top flavour of my cup is indeed named twice. I wasn’t intending on taking chocolate, even though I was highly tempted. Whenever I’m with someone else ordering ice cream, I’m always a little hesitant in choosing, because I tend to go for the simplest picks out there. I will say that this chocolate rivals any similar flavour elsewhere. It was nice and creamy, living up to my expectations.
The placement of the two different flavours one on top of the other was one of my initial concerns going in. For one, it forced me to stop in the middle of consumption to take another picture. Though, I will say that once the chocolate started melting into the orange, it was one of the highlights of the whole ice cream trip.
The orange flavour itself is made from real orange juice, which to me, is a big selling point. Though it tasted just like orange, which I likes, there were some points where the sorbet was clumped together, like a melting popsicle. With that one issue aside, the orange absolutely hit the spot.
I was never hesitant going into this place, I was actually quite excited. No wonder they speak so much and highly about the ice cream here. It actually rivals or even surpasses some of the other places I’ve been to in the last three months. It’s a definite must-visit location.
