When you’re trying to convey food or anything relating to it, pictures really do speak a 1000 words. No matter how eloquently structured a paragraph may be, the picture is what puts it over the top. In the last 12 months, I’ve taken almost 3,000 pictures and only 5 can be worthy enough to mention as the ones that defined 2012 for me.
Like I stated last year, I don’t ever pretend to be the greatest photographer on the planet. With that being said, these are the pictures that blew me away. You don’t really think about it until you’re reviewing them later. I’m astonished at how some so realistic that you want to tear a hole in your screen to grab what’s there.
Narrowing down the list of pictures from 3,000 wasn’t easy. I could have easily made a post with 50 pictures, but I’m hoping I made the right choices.
Eating is a symphony for the senses and looking at pictures is supposed to evoke those memories. Without further adieu, here are the pictures that represent 2012 to me.
Honorable Mentions

3. Chocolate Mousse Cake @ Brioche Lyonnaise
THE LIST

1. Tea @ Fung Shing
The impact of this picture didn’t really hit me until I was reviewing my pictures for this post. On that day, I was re-taking pictures of that restaurant because my original venture wasn’t as sufficient. The results of the pictures for the revisit were so much better and ones that I wanted to share. This tea cup represents just what a little practice will do to hone your skills.

2. Raspberry Chocolate Mousse Cake @ Juliette & Chocolat
Looking at this picture it was like the cake was right in front of me. Don’t you ever have those moments where the food presented in front of you is just so aesthetically pleasing that you don’t want to touch it? This was one of those moments for me. Looking back at this picture, I’m just reminded of what a pleasure it was to have some of these desserts over the last year.

3. Cutlery @ Ettingers
At the end of 2012, the restaurant known as Ettingers closed down, hopefully to find another Lasalle location. For some, this is just a wasted picture of something that doesn’t really matter. This particular picture blew me away because it takes something that we don’t really think about and puts a full spotlight on it. Then again, I might of just got lucky taking that one.

4. Caviar @ La Bétise
If I had to choose which picture was the best one I took all year, it would probably be this one. I’ve only had caviar twice in my life and that picture was the first one on a burger. I was just amazed with how up close I was able to get with this one. That feeling took an average burger and picked it up a few notches for me.

5. Merci @ La Paryse
This is a fitting end to this post. I didn’t choose this picture because it was pretty or well done. The reason that I had to included this picture in here because it’s touching. Similar to a picture I took at Zellers, this brings back a flood of memories that none of us will ever forget. La Paryse has been a part of the fabric of Montreal for the better part of my lifetime. There will be none like it in the future and for that, I thank La Paryse.

Those are the pictures that made my 2012 and allowed me to capture so many memories for a long time to come. In the next post, probably the most anticipated one, we’ll find out which 2012 burgers rose to the top.
