You’ve probably heard of my latest location a lot in the last few months and years.  The Griffintown Cafe is one of those Montreal brunch hot-spots that people just flock to get into.  I, on the other hand, have other very valid reasons to show up to the Griffintown Cafe.  This place has been on my radar ever since I started my Burger Search.  I’ve been waiting for the right moment and on this 2012 edition of Leap Day, it has finally arrived.

Colleague outings aren’t things that I’m too interested in.  It seems to me that they revolve around things that I’m not too fond of.  It takes a lot of unique factors to make me want to come.  This was the second outing that didn’t quite interest me at first.  Mind you, I’m getting pretty fond of having Greek food, but on this particular Friday evening, it wasn’t quite enough to draw me in.  If you’re wondering why I came out, let me set the scene for you.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot of one of the first burgers I ever had in my entire life.  I relate it a lot to that episode of How I Met Your Mother, where Marshall scours New York to find that one place where he had that one epic burger.  For me, the only difference was that I knew exactly where it was, but I didn’t know whether or not it still existed.

Throughout the Burger Search, there was always one part of the island of Montreal that I kept my eye on.  That part was the area of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue.  I can’t tell you the number of places I have on my list that can be found within a small stretch of road in Sainte-Anne.  With most of my locations needing to be accessible to public transport, Sainte-Anne was never extremely realistic, that is, until this very day.

The Fat Squirrel Society reunited for its fifth month of going out to various restaurants to try what they have to offer.  The theme of this round was to bring the other 2 members to places that are well outside our comfort zones.  Last month, the member I’ll call Ms. K brought the group to Carribean food at Kalalu.  That was a nice experience in all.  This month, it was my turn.  I tried my best to think of all kinds of things that I wasn’t used to and this is what I came up with.  Scandinavian food is definitely well out of my comfort zone.  Also, this restaurant was on my list of places to visit, so I was killing two birds with one stone.

Little over 6 months ago, I came across something over Facebook that stated that the Deville Dinerbar would be opening soon in Montreal.  Not knowing more than that, I put in the back of my mind.  It wasn’t until the few months that the Deville Dinerbar shot out and was everywhere.  They were part of a recent Dishcrawl and the focus of many blog posts.  Their Twitter account was quite active and the pictures of their food all over the various tweets I could keep up with.  Well, on February 4, 2012, it was my turn to see what the whole fuss was about and I wouldn’t be alone.  After all, I called this Mr. Lew’s Burger Night.

I know what you’re thinking, why on Earth would I do a burger so soon after nearly drowning myself in poutine just 2 days ago?  Well, I’m crazy.  More seriously, after a slow month of January, I felt it was time to make sure I was back on track.  If that meant pulling overtime on bacon cheeseburgers, so be it.  So, on this beautiful day, I was off to find another burger that no one ever really thinks about.

GBS Review of January 2012

Recently, I decided that I’d take a time at the beginning of a new month to remind you of what I did the previous month.  It’s just a chance to give you all that opportunity to catch up on anything you might of missed.

January started a brand new year for the GBS.  Personally, since 2011 was such a hectic year, especially in the last 6 months, I decided to take it easy since I was on holiday.  So, even though I posted on New Year’s, it took me almost 2 weeks to get back in the swing of things.  In a way, it affected me because I’m still not back to my normal swing of things.  January was also big for 2 reasons.  The first reason was my personal introduction to Happening Gourmand.  It was enough to make me decide that 2013 was a must to come back.  The second was that I was introduced to the Menuism team, something that I hope brings in more burger fans in 2012.  So, without further adieu, here’s what happened in January 2012:

1.  GBS Year in Review - Burgers

I can’t go and do a post about January without reminding you of the first thing I posted in 2012.  There’s not much to say about this because the title speaks for itself.
